Out of the Mist

My interpretation describes a hunting party surprised by a wildebeest appearing suddenly out of the mist. With them is a a shaman praying for a bountiful hunt. The symbols at the bottom of the painting represent the prayers for protection and a plentiful hunt that was sent their way before their expedition. The large animal depicted is, in fact, a huge engraving of a Bubalus from Messak, Libya. The bubalus, which became extinct about 5,00 years ago, is thought to have been a relative of the American buffalo. This pictograph is found in the Brandberg, Namibia area above a sheer drop and according to anthropologists this scene depicts men seeking a mythical creature’s help perhaps for rain. This painting is on printmaking and specialty rice paper. SIZE 30” x 38”
