Exodus I

Going on a Safari is a once in a lifetime event. The incredible vastness of the landscape, the exotic animals and the heat of the day all serve to leave an indelible mark on you. I was enthralled with the various breeds of gazelles, kudus, springboks, and impalas. Most intriguing were the giraffes. They are incredibly shy and tall. I wondered how these marvelous animals travelled such great distances for food. This was the impetus for Exodus. Kruger Park is the largest game park sanctuary in South Africa boasting 5 categories of game species, that is, the African bush elephant, the cape buffalo, the black rhino, the lion and leopard. In Exodus I, I attempted to convey the feeling of long distance travel and heat emanating from the semi-arid plains. Exodus I had a multitude of acrylic gels including Tar Gel, Fine and Coarse Pumice Pumice, Coarse Alumina and, Gold Mica. Once the gels were dry, acrylic earth tones were painted on followed by stenciled images of impalas and giraffes. This painting was done on Illustration Board. SIZE 18 1/2” x 31 1/2”
